Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) began in 1999 as a ceremony festival celebrating the top music videos of the year under the name MMF (Mnet Music Video Festival) in 2000, MKMF (Mnet KM Music Video Festival) in 2004, and has steadily grown and evolved to become Koreas representative music awards.
In 2009, MAMA took the step to go beyond the standard year-end award ceremonies to become Asias representative music festival. In 2010, MAMA stepped out and held its first ceremony overseas, holding a successful ceremony in Macau, and went on to Singapore in 2011, Hong Kong in 2012 and 2014.
MAMA is aired live in four continents, Asia, Europe, North America and Oceania, and is taking lead in spreading K-Pop worldwide.
